Advancing timing for more power--- anybody have any advice? More power = more engine wear?

It's been 20 years since I aligned a car in a shop, but in those days, RWD car specifications were all for some degree of toe-in, and FWD car specifications were all for some degree of toe-out. Adjusting a RWD car to toe-out would definitely result in wander and premature tire wear.

I've never tried measuring alignment at home, though I've seen it done. My approach is to not rotate the tires for the last 20k wear on the set. When I remove them, I check the old tires for wear, then I check the steering wheel spokes for center while driving to decide whether to tweek one or both tie rod adjustments. That's the plan, anyway. In practice, I haven't needed to touch the alignment on the Brick for the 120k miles.
