Wiper motor sounds like machine gun!!!! 1800

BUDDA BUDDA BUDDA!!! (that's the sound machine guns make in comic books)
When I turn on the wipers the motor does that sound and the wipers stop moving. I have to shut them off (which I do, for it's loud and scary, also like a machine gun) and get out (in the rain, mind you) and nudge one of them back down. They promptly obey and come to a rest all by themselves. The answer seems obvious in that it's the motor gear skipping or something. What I'm wondering is, is there an easy fix? Tighten a screw? Add some STP to the fuel? Say 10 Hail Marys? I don't want to replace it; Not only do I *like* that wiper motor, but it's more fun to fix stuff than it is to replace it.

Sometimes.
