Is the 960 a good car to buy?

Check FAQ on the 960 series. If you don't have or can't get the maintenance history on the car then walk away too much risk. I knew the history of my 92 960 but didn't understand the implication of what the engine had been through at the time of purchase. In my case when the timing belt snapped and trashed the valves (as previously stated) it became too expensive to fix the engine so I bought a 940 SE with the same money I would have spent on the repair and have the same car with a Turbo and am very happy.

To me this is alot of risk for the performance offered especially when the HP was down rated from 204(92 to 94) to 181 in 1995. I did find the transmission to be flawless during the 3 years I drove the 960. All the monies I spent were on the engine and that was considerable (over $4k).
