240 skid plate

We have been running a 242 in SCCA Pro and Club Rally plus a few Canadian events for the past 4 years. The shield we built attaches to the lower radiator support like the plastic shield. It bolts to the cross member, again like the plastic one. It then extends another foot or so back to cover the oil pan and bolts to the boxes that supports the rear end of the lower A arm. The original was built out of 1/8" aluminum and was easy to bend up on a brake but was not strong enough. The present one is 1/4" aluminum and is strong enough to jack the car up on. It was a bear to bend and is heavy but is worth it. Ours was built to handle typical eastern conditions; fast roads with an occasional big rock sticking up. I understand that western roads are different with more gravel and smaller stones. Ours is as wide as possible without interfering with the steering arms. BTW, we took the air dam off. An alternative might be lighter gauge aluminum with square tubing reenforcement.
