Simple, easy radio question

It's a flourescent display on my radios, and is on yours if the display appears completely black as opposed to just an unlit LCD.

Virtually all samples of this radio that I've seen exhibit the same problem. All of the pins on the display module are connected to traces on the back of the PCB, with one exception. The exception connects to a trace on the front of the board. On both of my radios this joint was dry (no solder) on the top side, though properly wetted on the bottom, and apparently the via was not plated through. In any case, I was able to fix these by resoldering that particular joint.

Most sane people would probably just get another radio :)
