Heater Valve Replacement

I replaced one on my 740 estate a year ago. The part that came out was part plastic/part metal. The reason it failed was corrosion in the metal part causing a leak in the cabin. I don't know how old it was but the car is an '86 with 200,000 miles on it. I replaced it with the Volvo part and I'm damned if I can remember if it was all plastic or not, all I remember if the sheer relief at getting it in without breaking it !!!
