To be honest I've never tried. I think it's possible to pull the mainshaft out without dropping the layshaft into the bottom of the box. If you do that you have to also leave the input shaft in place.


You will still need to remove the selector rods. I don't see any way of getting reverse gear out without having the mainshaft assembly out. As I said I've never tried, I'm interested to know the result if you do. I don't reckon it'll save you a lot of time though.
