Installing a temp guage for the tranny

I wouldn't be too concernedwith a 500lb-1000lb load on a brick. That much weight is well within spec for a volvo's towing capacity.

To put it in prespective, I've towed a 5500lb boat behind my 1985 745t. No, I don't recommend towing an item that weighs 1000lb more than teh car itself on a regular basis, but it can be done when necessary.

And as the other respondant stated, your going to wear the tranny the same whether you can see it heating up or not, so why bother? As for a cooling system, doesn't the brick already have that for the transmission fluid up near the radiator? I was under the impression there is a heat sink radiator type thing for both the oil and transmission fluid.
