Installing a temp guage for the tranny

I agree in principle with what both of you have stated, however heat is prolly the biggest contributor to shortening the life of an auto tranny.

Yes there already is a cooler. It is/was standard equip on all the turbos (at least 1990+ ASAIK). So it was put there w/o the car being intended to compensate for towing.

A guage would let a person know what the normal temp would be w/o towing, vs. the temps while towing. The manual states to leave OD off while towing. This keeps the revs up (mpg lower) and the tranny cooler. This seems prefectly correct while going up hills, or strong headwinds, but what about a good tailwind on level ground? Or just going downhill? Or just plan level ground?

Can a person run with OD on during these situations?

So it isn't just a matter of saying what happens is going to happen. Why have any guages then?

Thanks for your inputs, but I am still (at this point) going to pursue an indicator of tranny conditions.
