I replaced mine after my tourqe converter went out and i thought it was a valve body failure turned out to be the governer inside the transmission that went out, so i did just what you suggested i picked one up from a local JY and threw it in there, flushed the fluid and its worked great ever since well other then a small leak which i havent had time to install a refitted resealed extension housing, But i agree full with you they will go forever as i had written before i had only heard of stories like that most of what i hear is people saying yea i have 500k on mine and all i ever did was change fluids where i heard the 200-300k was on the Brick here probly with newbies talking.
