engine missing

How were bad rings diagnosed? Did the mechanic squirt oil into number 1 and retake the compression test. This is standard procedure when rings are suspect. The oil will cause the compression to shoot way up. It is unlikely that the bullet proof, work horse B230 engine has worn rings on only one cylinder. These engines go 100's K miles and still have rings and valves in good condition What were the readings? What is the mileage? Without more info I would say It is far more likely that this a head gasket problem. Have you ever had a severe overheat incident?
