K10042 speedo not interchangeable?

What did yours do when you swapped it in? Did anything at all light up or work? I've been battling trying to get my odometer working again for the past year or so, but I think it's a never-ending journey. With my current '87 speedohead, the entire odometer motor falls right out including the silver part that's supposed to be soldered (I don't have a soldering iron). My original unit was a botched odometer repair that eventually failed again and plus messed my speedo needle up, causing it to only work from 20mph-55mph. That's why I had to put in the one from 1987. I have a set of good gears, but I'm still hoping to find another speedo head out there that I can test.

My suggestion to you is that if your original speedohead from 1990 works but the odometer itself doesn't, I would take the plastic/nylon gears from '88 speedo and swap them into your original '90 unit. Just be sure that smaller tooth gear doesn't have any missing teeth.

Let me know if it works.
