965 Heater Core Repl – Done but not easy 900

Well, I recently replaced my leaking heater core in my 92 965 that has Electronic Climate Control (ECC). I include the ECC description because this is the configuration that requires pulling the steering wheel, Dash, everything right down to the firewall - just so you can get to that damn core. Alldata says it should take about 9 hours labor. My dealership wanted 11 hours at $85/hr. I did it in about 20 hours over a weekend. If I had to do it again, it would probably take me 11 hours or less. This is not a job for anyone who suffers from ADD or is easily intimidated by the sight of seeing your car’s interior completely disemboweled.

It strikes me as irresponsible that manufactures would make heater cores so inaccessible. Some are worse than others. But It can’t get any worse than a 965 with ECC.

Regards, Dave
