940SE black cloud on hard accel. 900 1991

My 91 940 SE puts out a huge cloud on full acceleration. A friend of mine who was unlucky enough to be behind me getting on the highway said it seems like soot. I think something maybe wrong with the system, telling it to enrich more than it needs to. I also just failed emissions for the first time, so I'm trying to diagnose. Any ideas?
