Instrument cluster removal 200 1981

I need some help! I'm removing the instrument cluster in my 81 242 so I can get the odometer repaired. I took out the six screws that hold it in and pulled it gently toward the steering wheel, but it doesn't want to come all the way out. Should I be releasing cables and connectors from the back side before pulling it all the way out? Or does it come out far enough to release all the connections while sitting in the drivers seat so I can keep better track of everything in order to get it back together right? Are there any particular tricks to releasing all the connectors? Does the speedo cable just unscrew? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
