940 Purchase advice 900

Hi,

I'm new to the board as far as posting, but I've been using it quite a bit to research my next Volvo purchase. I’ve owned a 1990 740GLE 16v for 4 years now and it’s at 205k- still going strong in spite of the bad reputation of the 16v. I’m looking to replace my 91 Maxima with a 95 940 Turbo Wagon and was wondering if $7500 sounded high for this vehicle. It has 103k miles, cloth interior, no sunroof or power seats, no turbo boost guage. It’s at a small dealer and there are no maint records, but the Carfax report seems to check out ok- 2 owners- the first one put 58k miles on in 6 years, the 2nd owner drove 45k miles in the last year. The dealer has offered to throw in snow tires and is trying to locate a third seat to install. I’m in Michigan, so I’ve got a feeling that a RWD vehicle looks less and less appealing as we head into winter (I doesn’t help that we’ve had about three inches of snow during the last few days). I was just wondering about the price and how thoroughly I should have my mechanic look at it if I decide to get more serious about purchasing. I’ve been comparing to the 850 Turbo- the 850’s turbo is a lot more fun, but I get the impression that over the long haul, the 940 is going to be more reliable.

Thanks for the input

John
