Regional differences

Here in Seattle, there are a number of independant 'curbstone dealers' who deal in only Volvos and buy them at a HUGE savings in Texas, New York and other places where they seemingly go for a song.

Anyone could easily add 40% to the price of a volvo by just driving it to Seattle to sell. This is one Volvo loving town! It's not uncommon to see 5 Volvos lined up at an intersection.

Friends of mine recently went all the way back to Massachusetts to save money on a new Volvo. More than paid for the trip back.
