Windshield washer relay question

Susan --

The washers don't exactly have a relay -- the wiper stalk switches (including the pushbutton for the wagon) connect directly to the washer pumps. However, in both cases, the same signal that goes to the pumps ALSO connects to the wiper relays. This triggers the wipers to automatically provide several sweeps.

The wiper relays are located behind a metal plate, driver's side floor, very front-left, about where a tall driver's left foor might rest. If you pull down the top of the carpet you'll see several harnesses disappearing behind a sheet metal panel (very left side). This panel is about 4-5" wide. Pull up the harnesses and you'll see the two relays wrapped in plastic foam. Black for the front, white for the rear unless you have a GL with intermittent sweep (rear), then it's blue instead of white. At least I think those are the colors.....

For troubleshooting, I'd check the fuse and then check right at the washer pumps with a test light to look for 12 volts when the switch is activated.

It's unlikely that the stalk switches have both failed, but the pumps are possible culprits.
