Low idle at start up and high idle when engine warm

Regarding the idle control valve, it could be a dead spot in the rotation of the valve. My car had an idle problem, and at first glance the idle control valve worked OK - it opened and closed with applied voltage. However, when testing with a ohm-meter, I noticed that as I rotated the valve, there was a spot that showed no continunity (v. high resistance). If the valve happened to stop in that position (which it did on the car), it could no longer open and close. I replaced my idle control valve and the car idles better than it ever has. There are a lot of things to check before simply replacing yours, but it could be the idle control valve. Definately clean the throttle body, adjust the idle switch, and clean the idle control valve. You will need new gaskets for the throttle body. You can get them (and everything else) at fcpgroton.com.
