245 overcharging, why?

When your volt-o-meter shows that you're in the red, go measure the voltage across the battery terminals. Anything above 14 volts is too much, your voltage regulator is bad. If you're up for the challenge you could buy a "calibrated" VDO gauge that's a bit more accurate than the unmarked Volvo gauge.
