Serious Electrical Issues? 200 1986

Hey Gang,
Today when I got into my wagon, I discovered that the heater/ac is not working. It was working not too long ago--it hasn't been cold enough to use it. Today was really cold and when I pused the button nothing happened. I replaced the majority of the fuses yesterday because they were the wrong amperage, in most cases too high. Did the previous owner have it rigged some how? I just went out and pulled the fuses that were ac/heater related and tried the wrong ones to see if it would work--it didn't. That stupid bulb out warning light is still on and now, it's actually cold down here, no heat. I don't know what to do. I've read the ac/heating chapter in the Bentley and I'm still lost. I just don't understand how I went from having heat/ac to none. Please help me.

And as always, Thanks!
