Again, Coolant leak Help Me. 700 1991

I have several questions concerning the coolant leakage.
In the morning I checked my engine and saw some dried coolant all the way down from the thermostat housing. some folks here told it may be the thermostat gasket or the bolt. a few minutes ago, I come back to my car and take a close look at the thermostat housing, and saw some marks that I believe the coolant used to leak from there. But when I started the engine and warm the car up for 1o or 20 minutes, I saw nothing comes out from the thermostat, it is pretty dry there now, However I do see some "steam"(white smoke) get out from that side of the engine, it looks like the steam comes from the connection between the engine and the timing belt cover(several inches belowe the thermostat).and I do collect some coolant from the bottom of the car it comes to the ground at the location behind or around the oil pan.

I just wondering if it is the thermostat leaking? I am sure at least the thermostat used to be leaking, but what I saw can not explain the coolant come to the ground.

pls help me.

Thanks.
Lux
