winter tires: size? brand?

So, we have all established that narrow is better than wide for snows. My 1990 745 Turbo runs 205/55-16s in the summer (Michelin Pilot - crap in the snow and ice). For my winters, I decided to use 195/65-15 (Michelin Arctic Alpin). I would have went to a 14" wheel but I don't think that they would fit over my brakes. When I chose my winters, I used a simple formula to calculate a "minus one" conversion(e.g. (195*0.65*2/25.4)+15). The objective was to try to find the best tire size that maintained the same overall height and circumference as the summers. I would have liked to go to a 185 or even 175 but the sizes were not available to me. One factor I also took into consideration is ice performance. In Southwestern Ontario (that's Canada), a good part of winter driving is on ice. Something to keep in mind, depending on where you live.
