pressure switch behind clutch pedal 200 1985

Hi everyone. Well today I was under my dash and I noticed a pressure switch behind the clutch pedal and it was turned so that the pedal arm did not contact it, so I fixed that- but should I have? Is this the switch that keeps the car from starting when the button is in (clutch out)? I know the Volvo owners manual says to press in the clutch when starting (something I've never done). Is this waht it is?
The car wouldn't start anyway (before or after 'fixing' this) so I can't tell that way.
Thanks
