pressure switch behind clutch pedal

There's an overboost switch somewhere up behind the firewall. If that's not what you're looking at.. it's the switch for the cruise control (you know so it doesn't hold the throttle open when you depress the clutch).

AFAIK no RWD Volvo has ever had a clutch/starter interlock. I assume they just give their drivers more credit. It could also be looked at as a safety feature. If there was an interlock, your car wouldn't even be cranking.

As for depressing the clutch, I don't do it either. But you should really have your foot on either the brake or clutch pedal when you start the car. I vote for the brake pedal (since it will prevent the car from moving much if you leave the car in gear or if your clutch cable snaps). Either way MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS IN NEUTRAL (OR PARK) BEFORE YOU START IT.

P.S. I'm also a big fan of the whole leaving the car in gear when you park it thing.

P.P.S. How old is the fuel filter? I'm sure that's not causing your no start situation, but if it's old and gunky it sure wouldn't help weak fuel pumps..
