What's normal oil consumption for B230F engine?

When I worked for a mechanic I remember reading a Technical Service Bulletin from Ford. It read that normal oil consumption should be less than 1 quart per 500 miles. I thought that was an excessive amount of oil. The oil consumption for my 86 240 is about 1 quart of oil every 3000 miles. I am comfortable with this level of usage.

A good practice is to check the oil at least once a week for the first few months that you own a car. Then once you know how much oil it uses watch for changes in consumption. A radical change in consumption could mean problems (i.e. leaks, ring wear, valve seal, etc.)
