Bad Milage 200 1987

Hey bricksters. I have an 87 240gl, with an auto trasmission. I remember up to about a year ago i was getting 24 mpg. Then the car had really bad drivability problems for a month, during which I was getting about 19 mpg. The problem fixed itself. Right after that happened I broke the odometer and couldn't calculate the milage. Since then I've replaced the front brake pads and rotors, engine mounts, main relay, and in tank fuel pump. Then i started having the drivability problems again. I replaced the air mass meter and it total fixed the problem. The car runs the best it has in a long time. When I got a new instrument cluster, I started calculating the milage again and I'm getting about 19 mpg. What the hell? The car runs great but I'm still getting crappy milage. All i can think is that when i replaced the in tank fuel pump, fuel pressure increased somehow. I know the car was running rich for a long time: black smoke, black plugs, coughing on startup, etc. I was thinking FPR but there is no gas or smell of gas in the hose connecting it to the intake manifold. Any ideas? Thanks.
