960 Wagon Electronic Shift Buttons 900 1996

I just purchased a 1996 960 Wagon with 58K miles. Question: There are 3 buttons to the left of the floor shift. W, S, and E. The S and E can be depressed and the light comes on for ht ebutton pushed. The W light will come on when that button is depressed but the W button will not go down. Is that normal?
