Do not service at dealers

This actually applies to all types of autos, but is specifically applicable to european imports. All they do is jack you with a bunch of nonsense. They don't really care about keeping your car running, and by and large they aren't interested in retaining the business of die-hards who seek to get the most life out of their vehicles.

Dealers want leases and quick turnover customers who pay through the nose for service. The ROI on older cars isn't there. This also means that your brick ends up getting Johnny Numbnuts the Neophyte Mechanic.

Independant mechanics LIVEW by their service and reputation. They can't afford to have a mad customer, and they are generally MUCH more interested in helping you keep your car running properly. Additionally, I've found Indiesare much more knowledgable about the little nuances than dealers, mostly because they live on their wits.

Post on this board with your locations and I'm sure someone will give you the name of a solid indy mech somewhere near you.

good luck,
rt
