Flame Trap question

I have a Hayes manual,but it doesn't cover the GLE (16 valve) engine, and it doesn't cover flame traps anyway.

Looking at the IPD catalog, it shows the flame trap (in pre 87 Volvos) installed in the plastic housing where the two hoses connect, and I double checked mine, and there wasn't one there. Now I'm not sure that if mine does require a trap, does it go in the plastic housing, or the flange. I suppose I can call IPD to clairfy this.
