Noisy shifter knob

OK, this has been on EVERY manual trans Volvo I've had. You gotta know it.....

The plastic shift pattern indicator in the shift knob vibrates like crazy. It's the overdrive button rattling against the indicator plate.

I've stuck bits of paper in there and stuff, but there must be a solution, I'm surprised Volvo does not have a bulletin on it, it must drive customers crazy!

Anyone got an elegant or at least practical solution?
