Smith's speedometer wobble 1800

It's been getting worse and worse. Wobble wobble! It goes from 0-100 in a heartbeat (and the car definitley does NOT). Today my suspicions that the cable was the culprit were DASHED like so many DOGS on the ROCKS when I realized that the odometer readings are correct. One mile on the road is accurately reflected on the meter despite the nervous sounds of a growling squirrel emanating from the device. Anybody ever taken the gauge apart? What am I getting into? How do you tame the squirrel?
