Inspirational '81 Brick 200

Whew, just completed a 108 mile trip with tranny acting funny at beginning. Stopped once, added more fluid and kept rocking, girlfriend even stayed calm during the whole experience, she rocks!! I have a 3 speed automatic, Borg Warner I believe (anyone know the exact model number of this). The tranny faided in and out for a while and was making sick, rumbling, wire hangers-in-a-trashcan-rolling-down-a-hill-sound. I was wondering, how hard is it to upgrade to AW70 with more gears, convert to a manual, or rebuild my current tranny. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks, will ponder and explore options tomorrow. That swede never gave up, she just kept on goin'. She personified "I roll" tonight, I must give her props. I promised her that I would not forsake her for another 240 w/ a functional tranny, I will resurrect her drive train and we WILL ride again. What other car gives you 90 miles of warning before major tranny problem? She is truly my car of choice to transport me, my girlfriend and dog anywhere on the planet.
