1988 740 Turbo purchase

I do not have a teenage son but I was a teenager once. I would not recommend a turbo as a first car. Get him a normally aspirated 240 or 740. In my opinion, an inexperienced driver can get himself in trouble a lot faster in a 165 HP turbo then they can in a 115 HP NA car.

I was just shopping for 740s and looked at (3) '91 740 turbos. Price was from $2000US for a car that idled like crap and pinged, to $2400US for a good runner but needed cosmetics, AC, and radio. Finally settled on a $3000 very clean 740 with 172K miles and everything worked. If the car runs good, buy it and keep it for yourself, sounds like a bargain.

If the turbo goes, the car will not run right and might not run at all. Figure about $400-500US if you do the work yourself and about a grand if you get someone else to do it
