Midwesterners: What type of Snows??

Choosing winter tires is not easy. You will be driving on snow, ice and wet and dry roads and have to decide under which of these conditions do you prefer to have the "best" tire.

A recent Nordic test found that the un-studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q scored top marks on all the snow tests, and was as good on ice as an average studded tire. On the other hand, the testers also found it to perform very poorly when braking on wet asphalt roads. If dry pavement is what you'll be facing mostly, Goodyear UltraGrip 6 might be a better choice according to the test.

The HakkaQ are renown for their long tread life, though.

Erling.
