Diego,
We just got an '81 244 whose breather pipe was totally disconnected, i.e. the fumes from the oil separator/flame trap gismo were being vented directly into the engine compartment. Ladyfriend drove the car 400 mi. w. freaking crankcase vapor ducted in through cabin vent system.

I was ticked meself about gettting down in there as I personally am familiar w/'83s, they have true EFI w/diff intake manifold and much easier access to the pcv/flame trap assy.

Sorry to hear you had to remove itake manifold, not a job I've ever tackled on an '83 or an '81. What I did in the case of the '81 to get the flame trap back in place was first to buy some extended reach needle nose pliers which allowed me to push the funnel-shaped y piece back on to the breather box. This latter part I DID NOT REMOVE as I new it wasn't clogged and figured I'd leave well enough alone. Did make an extension for easier future flame trap/hose assy, copied something I saw on IPD website.

I did receive a tip c/o the BB that might help your situation--you do have the k-jet, right? Get down w/ a screwdriver and remove the big clamp attaching the bellows-like thing that connects the air/fuel control unit to the intake manifold. It's greasy and grimy, yes...but once that bugger's off, everything you need to get at will be MUCH SIMPLER. As soon as temp rises from 15 f to 30 or so round here, I'll be joining the club. At least take a peak with a good light to "enlighten" yourself.
