Easy Question 200 1986

This morning on my drive in while moving along at 80 mph, I noticed that the temp guage was laying on the bottom. First time I have seen this and I do a fair job of watching the two guages I have. The air temp was above 50 F this morning and the heater would melt you if turned on. So my thinking is a wiring or sensor problem not the thermostat.

By the way it started working later in the drive.

Where is the temp sensor on the block? Any ideas?

As always thanks in advance for your help
