Oil Pressure and the Oil Pressure Gauge 200

Hi Again,

Don't want to be a pain, but I'm so impressed with all your knowledge and willingness to help, I thought I'd ask another question.

My '82 242 turbo has the oil pressure gauge in the center row of gauges.

On the way to work today I noticed my oil pressure was holding at the first bar after the red area on the left side showing low pressure. I'm not sure if it always holds there or not, but I did notice when the engine was idling the needle went to the high end of the red area.

I thought maybe I was a little low on oil so when I got to work I checked the oil and it was full according to the dipstick.

I use 10w-30 Castrol Synthetic and the temp. here was in the mid 50s today.

What is the normal oil pressure for these engines? Should I go to a little higher viscosity oil? Should I be worried?

Thanks in advance,

M Karns
