Was 1971 a good year for the 164?

I have a 1972 164 "F" engine, fuel injected M410 w/overdrive. Very nice. Everything in the engine/transmission is stock so its not a jack rabbit but still plenty of power and very quiet at expressway speeds. The 72 interior is identical to 71; that is same instrument cluster, heater, vents etc. The exterior certainly appears to also be the same as 71 except that the door handles are inset(flush with the body) in 72. I like the D jet fuel injection system better than the SU carb setup on my 71 140.

The addition of Bilstein heavy duty front shocks and IPD anti sway bars front and rear along with 185/7 tires have significantly improved handling. When replacements are needed, I may go for 195/65 tires.

The most important aspect of picking one of these cars is avoiding rust, rust, rust and more rust. Anything else can be repaired or replaced but once anything beyond a little surface rust gets going, its almost impossible to stop. Thats my view at any rate. Good luck
