whiny noise on startup

It sound like it could be the fuel pump, it will run for a few seconds when the key is turned to the I position. this is normal, has the sound become louder or whine-ier recently. It could be a failed intank pump or a failing main pump. It is bad that you dont have the engine pan on. ITs a good way to sieze an AC compressor, damage the condensor, or do all other kinds of nasties due to water and rock spray up. THey are aeround $35 online, or you can fix your broken one with some galvanized sheetmetal and pop rivets or sheet metal screws.
