I'm not an electrician! 200 1983

Hi all!
OK, so one of the posters on this board transplanted a GM electric fan to his 240 and got rid of the fan/clutch assembly. He also added that he just hooked it up to a toggle switch. So, I want to do the same thing except for the toggle switch. Instead, I want to use a thermo switch (from a 700) hooked up to a relay (what's the real purpose of a relay?) and maybe a fuse, too for protection. My question, can I use one of my extra fuel pump relays (& harness) and fuse (+ holder) for this job? And, which terminal should go where? Help! Thanks fellas.
Denny
