My 245 automatic Won't Shift to OVERDRIVE!!!! 200

Hi I have a 85 245ti that just today stopped shifting to the overdrive. When I'm driving it shifts fine all the way up to the final gear then stops shifting. I have played with the overdrive button and the litght comes on and off but does not change anything. I have not had the time to check the trans fluid but could this be causing the problem or is it something else. Someone please tell me what to do!!!
