Wacky gas gage 900 1995

The gas gage in my 95 965 seems to have a mind of it's own. It will be reading a third of a tank and then a few minutes later it will read over half a tank. It seems to err on the low side.

Is it the sending unit going or maybe a circuit board in the loop going bad? If it's the sending unit, how hard would it be to drop the tank and replace it? While I'm there, any other components that should be replaced?

There is also the possibility that the car is haunted. It did get exposed to Tom Irwin's "Christine" twice.

Thanks in advance
