does my 89 245 come with a factory amp and some other radio questions 200 1989

I have the stock radio (C-712?) with four speakers, 2 front and 2 rear. The radio doesn't work but otherwise looks clean and unbroken. There is a bundle of wires attached to the back of the head unit. However, the four speaker wires are not attached to anything at all. Where do they go? Someone said that since I have 4 speakers, I should have an amp that the speaker wires go to. I don't see any amp. I know in my 83 245 the factory amp was located on the passenger side, right under the glove compartment. I took out my glove box in my 89 and didn't see any amp. Could the detached speaker wires be the reason why my radio doesn't work? Where do these wires attach to? The back of the head unit or to an amp?

I was thinking about getting an aftermarket (CD) head unit from Best Buys. But if I can, I much prefer keeping my stock cassette head unit. (Yes, I still use cassettes!) I'm thinking that it may be an easy fix. But if it's not and getting the stock radio to work requires professional help, then I might go for an aftermarket. But I really don't want to for this main but silly reason:

You know how the stock radio fits perfectly above the center vents? The plastic piece that surrounds the radio itself perfectly fits and curves around the edge of the dash. If I get an aftermarket system, which will be longer in length than the Volvo stock, will I have to lose that plastic surround thingy? And if so, won't that create a gap on the right side where the inner dash kind of curves? Also, I don't want a unit that will stick out. I like how the stock unit is even with the vents and the aux. squares (those 2 black covers where the clock and other aux. guages go).
