Buying my first 1800 1800

Like John mentioned, the rust problem is horrible. I am in the process of stripping my mildly wrecked 68 that looked very nice and moving a lot of the parts to a rust free 69 from California. I have always stored the 68 inside in the six years that I owned it, never drove it in salt, and even very little rain, but the rust problem is something else.

When I bought the 68 I knew that it had a little rust, but I have had a couple of MGB's in the past, and could stay ahead of it on them. After buying it I discovered that a lot of the frame was nothing but rust and an undercoating shell holding the shape. The problem with the classic rust repair method of cutting out the bad parts and welding in new pieces is fine, but it is a LOT of dirty work that is never as nice as factory original.

The best advice is to take the car and put it on a lift and do a VERY good examination for rust. It is well worth the money in time and aggravation to find the most rust free car that you can so that you have a good foundation to work with.
