How do you brake with ABS in the snow?

took the daughter's '95 Ford Coutour with ABS for a 3 hour wintry drive into the Poconos during yesterday's winter storm (4-7 inches! Yahoooooo!)

Tested the ABS braking system a lot because it is new to me (so is FWD)

I didn't expect ABS to really prevent the front tires fron locking up and sliding on snow. They did.

But I don't find much difference betwen ABS and conventional "pump the brakes" systems.

I had to pump, or at least back off, these brakes just about as much.

How are you supposed to brake with ABS in the slick?
