Antenna Mast Replacent Kit - Help!!!! 700 1989

Okay... so I bought the antenna mast replacement kit finally... easy to do eh? well if it's so easy to do then how come someone who can drop a tranny and lift a new one in less than 3 hours not be able to do this !!!!
sorry venting a little.
Here's my question... I know there's a little brass piece that you're supposed to remove from the old antenna and put on the new one... is it threaded? is that the brass piece their talking about? if so how do I go about doing this?
