240 GLT FRONT BRAKES-1981

Knew I was in for a brake/rotor job on my car as the front brakes had started making dragging noise unless I tapped pedal and I had previously noticed scoring on rotors. Brakes are now sounding like a lathe cutting steel and have reduced stopping power. Dealer quoted me $450 for front brakes including rotors. Is that fair for a factory dealer's mechanic doing the work? If I want to buy my own rotors does anyone have a good set for an '81 240 GLT wagon. I checked and mine are the vented type. Dealer (Santa Monica Volvo) who are great, but not always the place to go if you want to retain $, said that Volvo 240 front rotors on that car should not be machined. Normally I would not drive the brakes into the metal, but as I had previously noticed scoring I thought I would run them all the way down. Any advice / feedback?
