Premium in a turbo at 6500ft altitude? 200

I've put a lot of 85 octane in my 82 245Ti since I bought it this spring. Never do I hear any pinging or knocking even with full throttle redline bursts. I get 20-23 MPG mostly highway driving. I'm at 6500 Ft on the western slope of the Rockies. Can anyone give me a good reason to pay $1.70 a gallon for 90 octane when I can run 85 for $.20/gal cheaper? If I make a trip to the lowlands, I always use premium but at this altitude, the air is so thin that detonation just hasn't been a problem.
