Auto trans leak 200 1983

Folks,

I have been noticing a drip of red transmission fluid coming from the bottom of the transmission, and it seems to be coming from the fore portion area of the tranmission, in relation to the tranny pan. I have replaced the pan gasket and there is no drip aft of the pan. I understand the tranny is in two parts and there is a gasket seal there(?) If there is, my guess is that the tranny will have to be pulled to fix? Is this crucial to repair?

TIA

Todd
